Mark
knew he wanted to be an R&R singer the moment he heard The Beatles.
His first public appearance was in the 1st grade singing Freddie &
The Dreamers' "I'm Telling You Now" backed by a couple of classmates
doing "The Freddie" dance. He grew up listening to his Mom's old
country LP's and yet developed an aversion to 70's southern rock. Some
S.D. fans have taken to requesting "Free Bird" just to get his goat.
(They're lucky he doesn't turn them into flying monkeys.) He started
the band with Matt, Doug and Greg "Andy Em" Reece over 10 years ago,
but it's the current lineup that has really made it all come together.
The name came about because Mark would like to live in Oz and rule the
munchkins, who would have to look up to him. He might even take over
The Emerald City since The Wizard has gone back to Kansas. Mark feels
he is qualified to rule because of the words of wisdom he hands out,
such as... "Avoid catching fireballs."; “Don't pick apples from mean,
old living trees."; “Follow the yellow brick road.", and most
importantly, "If water will make you melt, avoid getting wet."
